In Memory of Ulduz
In memory of our dear friend - Ulduz

It comes with mixed emotions to be featured in Spacing Magazine's latest publication, where Hangeh's co-founder, Saif was interviewed by our good friend Ulduz Maschaykh - who with great sadness passed away a few days ago.

Though it’s heartbreaking to be part of Ulduz’s last publication, it is an honour to be associated with ideas and memory of a wonderful spirit like hers. Born in Iran, raised in Germany, educated in Germany and Canada, Ulduz lived in Vancouver. As a distinguished academic and a passionate community builder, Ulduz made it her life’s work to create urban spaces that are resilient, inclusive and connected. She also had an enduring love for the city of Vancouver, and advocated for causes within urban housing like affordability, social isolation and inclusion. It was an incredible experience to have shared Hangeh’s work and mission in our conversation, equally as much, it was a pleasure to have learned from your ideas and experiences.

In building Hangeh, we are guided by our belief in the deep sense of belonging and inspiration we all draw from our living spaces. It also comes with the realization that the happiness and connection we all desire, exists all around us - if we can reach out to get it. It is all of us together who build the communities we live in; our experiences create the present, and our stories shape the future.

Rest in peace Ulee, thank you for sharing our story, thank you for believing in us, hope we make you proud.
